Baru aja nyobain Windows 7 build 6801 di 2 computer. Satu di rumah, seperti biasa istri dijadikan ideal user untuk nyobain Windows 7 .... Seperti waktu Windows Vista, dia juga banyak membantu.... dan waktu mau dibalikin ke Windows XP, dia yang teriak sendiri untuk tetap di Windows Vista. :)

Installation

dari proses instalasi, untuk computer rumah saya pakai metode update dan cukup lama yang pasti lebih dari 1 jam untuk proses upgrade nya... mungkin karena banyak software yang harus disave settingnya. Untungnya waktu proses instalasi Windows installer memberi tahu progress nya sedikit lebih detil dibanding Windows Vista, sehingga kita merasa "lebih" cepat... sama seperti teori user interface yang mengatakan daripada menunjukan jam pasir, lebih baik menunjukan proses persentase tinggal berapa persen... Karena user akan merasa lebih cepat daripada ngeliatin jam pasir diemm aja padahal waktu yang dibutuhkan adalah sama. Kalo gak percaya, coba aja deh sendiri .... bikin aja for-next sederhana 1-1000000 yang satu nunjukin angka 1-1000000 yang satu lagi cuman jam pasir... pasti rasanya lebih lama ngeliat jam pasir. Anyway, ini adalah improvement yang saya rasa cukup ok. Untuk notebook Lenovo x60, saya menggunakan proses install from scratch ... dan secara prinsip sama dengan proses instalasi di Windows Vista, semua program lama dipindahin ke Windows.old.

Dari sisi driver dan application compatiblity benar benar ok selama aplikasi dan driver anda comply dengan Vista. Sekedar info, komputer rumah saya menggunakan AMD 5600 dengan memory 2GB, sedang Lenovo x60, menggunakan Centrino Duo 2Ghz dan 4GB memory.

Home Group

Untuk fitur yang satu ini ditawarkan apabila kita melakukan instalasi computer di network rumah. Fitur ini adalah pengembangan dari konsep Workgroup di Windows lama. Bedanya kita bisa secure workgroup ini sehingga computer yang tidak join workgroup/homegroup tidak bisa akses computer yg ada di dalam lingkup Homegroup. Untuk join homegroup kita harus memasukan join password. Menarik memang, security memang harus tetap diterapkan sekalipun dirumah.

Hal ini juga membantu apabila kita punya computer kantor yang sudah Join Domain, Windows 7 dapat dengan mudah membantu membedakan kita sedang connect ke Domain atau HomeGroup.

Libraries

Ini fitur baru yang sangat membantu apabila kita memiki beberapa folder untuk data dokumen kita. Disini kita bisa punya 1 view gabungan dari beberapa document folder kita walau secara fisik terpisah satu sama lainnya. Mungkin gambar berikut bisa memberi gambaran yang jauh lebih baik dari kata - kata saya.

Jadi walaupun di D:\data serta di C:\Users\Fujic\ saya punya Documents saya bisa punya 1 view yang merupakan kumpulan dari dua folder tersebut.

Network Icon

Ada perubahan juga di sisi network icon nya ... Kita dapat dengan mudah menentukan kita mau connect kemana wireless atau VPN tanpa harus click click beberapa kali yang mana sering kali menyusahkan untuk beberapa user awam.

Projector Setting

Nah yang ini juga biasanya merepotkan waktu kita mau presentasi, masing - masing vendor VGA punya menu yg berbeda beda untuk setting dual monitor nya... Intel, NVidia atau ATI punya setting menu yg berbeda. Nah hal ini diseragamkan di Windows dengan menekan tombol Windows-P .... dan voila muncul seperti ini:

Ribbon Menu

Ngak cuman Office 2007 aja yang pake Ribbon yang sangat mempersingkat pekerjaan kita... Sekarang Paint dan Wordpad sudah menggunakan ribbon juga.

We depart from Soekarno Hatta at 7:05PM and straight to Singapore, terminal 2. We urges to Terminal 3 using their train and still have to wait almost 2 hours for our next flight and finally on 11.50PM we departed from Singapore for 12 hours flight to Frankfurt and another 6 hours to New York.

Arrived at New York in the morning, and after INS check as usual, we went to Terminal 2 to check-in to Delta flight. We arrived at Orlando at night and I noticed that my baggage is damaged. Sigh, so I directly go to Delta customer service and they offered me for luggage exchange... not bad, it's Delsey and Swiss luggage but no TSA lock, so i refused to exchange. They said that it will need to be repaired in Pennsylvania and will try to send to my Hotel at Orlando. That's it .. i decided to wait for it, and go to Gaylord Palm to check in.

We start our day in Florida for CIE (Customer Immersing Experience) session and hopefully i will deployed immediately in Indonesia. The day after, we start the SS Summit, there are lot's of new knowledge, like Office 14 preview and sneak peek for Windows 7. The Hotel is good but it is covered with giant dome and all the Hotel Area including parks is air conditioned, not too good for me because it's Florida and it's cold. :-) We spend almost a week in this event.

Finally, Saturday is come and time for us to depart to New York where we will spend our holiday there. Ah ya, about my luggage, it hasn't come yet until the day i will depart, i spend night awake waiting for my luggage and unfortunately it is not come :-( ... I tried to call Delta, but who cares it's 3:00AM and nobody's there. So i have to decided to start pack and luckily Dicky Satrio want to exchange his luggage and willing to suffer with my extra bag. Thanks Dicky, really appreciated it.

Arrive at JFK, I straightly go to Delta and check my luggage status.. The officer said that it's impossible to repair my luggage in a week... So she kindly asked to reroute the shipment to my home. That's it. i stop thinking about my luggage and want to enjoy my 4 day holiday.

Here's the story. We (me and Christian, Ronny and Edy) stored our luggage in JFK and go to AVIS to rent a car. We rented a Chevrolet SUV and  straight our journey to Niagara, Ronny is the first driver :). Whoaaa... after about 1 hour driving, we start starving and we a looking for a Thai cuisine and the food is good especially for starving stomatch hahaha. After that Edy and Chris driving to Niagara, we stop by at an Outlet and have a shopping and I still thinking to pack them in my luggage hahaha so I bought nothing there. We went for a dinner in the middle of nowhere .... Whoaaa... it's waterloo city and it's really dark you know, and we all depend on GPS.... hahahaha Finally we found a chinese food there and start eating of course :) We arrived at Niagara around 12:00AM and my eyes is almost closed ... I'm not driving but straing at GPS all the time :) So we spend a night at Quality Hotel at Niagara, not too good hotel indeed but sufficient for us.

We went to Niagara falls by driving. Arrived at Niagara falls in the morning, we park there for $10 a day and urges to Cave of the Wind attraction. Ronny has the video, and it's really great to see falls actually falling on us. We took off the raincoat and took a couple picture downthere and after that we went up to see US Niagara Falls and also Horseshoe falls. Too bad weather is not too good, so the picture is not too good, but we glad it's not raining hahahaha.. After that we have our lunch at Chinese restaurant there, not too good but expensive, just like the other tourist restaurant. We went to a Casino just to take a look around, not for gambling :) after that we drive overnight to Washington DC. Gee it's really a long night.

We start to drive to DC and it's almost dark. We spend our night on the road. We arrive at Maryland and take a rest near McDonald, and on 7.00AM we depart to enter Washington DC. It's really challenging driving in DC, lot's of traffic and Policeman so we decided to stop and ask where we can park our car. I searched on GPS and find a nearby Parking lot. We park there and a walk to Capitol Hill. In the middle of way, we met Library of Congress, we decided to enter it and spend couple hours, after that we across the street straight to Capitol Hill, but seems we are all too hungry and we decided only to take a few photo outside capitol hill, and straight to Thai restaurant nearby. After taking a lunch, we go to our car and drive to Whitehouse, but it seems that Whitehouse is very sterilized and we are confused to get into near it. So we decided just to continue our journey to next city which is Atlantic City.

Along the way to Atlantic City, we found  BestBuy, and stop there. I visit Target and buy a luggage there for $39 and it's really not a good luggage indeed :) anyway, we go to Atlantic City and this time, I drive. Not too bad, 2-3 hours driving finally we arrived at Atlantic City and we went to Bally's hotel and casino. It's a good hotel and we spend a night before we continue our journey back to NY.

In the morning we urged to drive to NY since we have to return our car by 11:30AM. Christian drive this time and we make to enter New York city on 10.45AM and we drop our baggage in Hotel and drive directly to AVIS. We make it and returned the car by 11:30. We are in the middle New York city now and we decided to take a breakfast at McDonald... yes, it's a breakfast not lunch. Take a few photo in Times Square and we buy tickets for Double Decker Bus and of course Empire State building.

Finally 24 Sept, It's the last day in New York city, we leave Hotel on 10.30 and go to New York city. We leave our baggage on Baggage Store near 8th and 9th street, and take double decker to Buffalo (Merill Lynch mascot) and go to the beach to see statue of Liberty. Oh we are really disappointed by looking at it because our expectation it would be a very huge statue, but in fact, it is just a small one especially by looking it from the beach. We have to use ferry to see it closely but the time is already 3:00PM so we have to rush back to Baggage Storage, get our baggage and go to  train station. We arrive just in time 5 minute before it departing. After about 20-30 minutes the train took us to Jamaica train station, we have to switch platform to a train that will take us to JFK air train. Totally it took only $17 ($10 for train from New York City to Jamaica and $7 for Air Train). We arrive exactly 5.30 PM and retrieve our other baggage from terminal 4, and rush to check it at 6:00 PM just in time for check in.... After check in, i now can take a deep breath and sit on the waiting room to boarding. We depart 9.10PM from New York and arrive at Frankfurt around 6.00 and continue our journey to Singapore before we going back to Jakarta. Finally I arrive at Jakarta on 8:00 in the morning and rush to home to see my kids and beloved wife. :-)

Hai...dari minggu lalu udah nyobain Windows Vista SP1... Nih berbagi pengalaman deh....

Kalau berdasarkan spesifikasi teknis, SP1 menjanjikan banyak improvement dari sisi performance, security dan reliabilitas....

Kesan pertama sich cukup baik seperti faster boot time, login screen, serta buka Windows Explorer, explorasi di folder folder terasa lebih cepat (tapi bisa jadi subjektif sich), serta beberapa tambahan yang terlihat jelas seperti:

Pengganti Flip 3D untuk layar yang tidak AERO, lumayan dibanding yang lama karena screennya lebih besar sedikit.

Ada satu hal yang kurang di Vista RTM yaitu service index terus aktif walaupun user sedang menggunakan computer, akibatnya user merasakan kelambatan karena disk space dan memory resource digunakan oleh service ini. Di Vista SP1 ini saya melihat perbaikan yaitu Indexing activity memiliki prioritas yang lebih rendah dibanding kegiatan user, dan juga apabila user menginginkan full performance, user bisa mem-pause Index activity.

Bitlocker utk non-System drive seperti external harddisk atau partisi selain system disk (C:\) ... ini sangat bermanfaat apabila kita menginginkan harddisk external kita juga di encrypt... Untuk menghindari pencurian informasi dengan mencabut external harddisk kita yang tergeletak di meja kita. Nice feature...
